Esher 8th March 2008
David Addleton's third game in charge brought Cov's third win on the bounce.
Cov started brightly against the strong wind blowing in from the railway and, wisely keeping the ball in hand, finished the half 10-7 to the good following two tries from outstanding hooker Chris Whitehead.
On a day definitely more suited to the forwards, it was perhaps indicative that the third and final try should come from No8 Laurie McGlone, himself having another imperious game alongside the industrious wing forwards Clayton and Venter.
An effective full home debut from prop Rob Dugard and solid work from the rest of the pack possibly indicates where the coach's heart lies, but the backs chipped in with plenty of work, none more so than the mercurial Kurt Johnson, sporting a memorable new blond coiffure for the occasion.
Another decent display then, in very poor conditions, although the second half has to go down as slightly disappointing given the weather advantage. However it should be remembered that both halves were won on a day which many would describe the wind as a 'ten pointer', and the final score of 26-17 is one the team would have been very happy with on several occasions this season.
Long live proper 10-man rugby.
